Corporate News Headline

•DLF said that some of the promoter members sold 168 mn shares of the company to the institutional players for Rs. 38.6 bn in an open market transaction. (BS)
•TCS has won a five-year contract to provide IT services to Volkswagen Group UK, a unit of Volkswagen AG. (BS)
•ONGC is planning to invest about Rs. 90 bn over the next 3-4 years to enhance oil and gas output as part of phase II redevelopment of its Mumbai High field on India's Western Offshore. (BS)


Economic and Political Headline

•The RBI Governor Duvvuri Subbarao said that banks have more room to lower their lending rates after aggressive rate cuts by the central bank since last October. (ET)
•Retail sales in the US unexpectedly dropped 0.4% in April followed a revised 1.3% percent drop in March, indicating that rising unemployment is prompting consumers to conserve cash. (Bloomberg)
•The Bank of England said the UK economy faces a "slow" recovery and inflation will probably stay below its target for the next three years as the country struggles to escape the worst recession since the 1980s. (Bloomberg)
