Corporate News Headline
Ranbaxy Laboratories started operations in Yemen by tying up with a local firm, Pharma to strengthen its presence in the Middle-East. (ET)
Reliance Communications received a Rs. 30 bn loan from China Development Bank to build a nation-wide GSM footprint for the telephony major. (ET)
Tech Mahindra bagged a USD 700 mn contract from British Telecom for transforming and improving its IT estate or infrastructure. (ET)

Economic and Political Headline
The WPI based inflation for the week ended May 3 rose to 7.83% compared to 5.74% during the corresponding week in the previous year as the prices of coffee, maize, fruit and vegetable, cardamom, and spices rose. (BS)
The All-India Consumers Price Index number for agricultural and rural labourers for April 2008 increased six points each to stand at 429 points for both the series. (BS)
The index of leading US economic indicators rose 0.1% in April due to seven consecutive reductions by the Federal Reserve in the benchmark interest rate and its efforts to pump more money into the banking system. (Bloomberg)
